How to use smart photo composition tools in iOS 8

iOS 8 brings lots of welcome changes to the Photos app that can help you make your pictures even better. One of those new features is the introduction of smart composition tools. Ever take a photo that isn't quite as straight as you wished it was? Or maybe it doesn't have the right crop you need. Whatever the issue, smart composition tools make it easier than ever to tweak your photos to perfection!

How to straighten photos using smart composition tools in iOS 8

  1. Launch the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Find and tap on the photo you'd like to edit.
  3. Tap on Edit in the upper right hand corner.
  4. Tap on the crop icon in the bottom navigation.
  5. iOS will smartly adjust the photo to where it thinks the crop should be.
  6. If you either don't like the crop or don't think it's right, drag your finger on the dial to change it.
  7. If you ever want to go back to the original photo, just tap on Reset underneath the dial to remove any crop iOS or you made.
  8. Once you find a crop you're happy with, tap on Done in the bottom right.



How to change the aspect ratio of photos using smart composition tools in iOS 8

  1. Launch the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Find and tap on the photo you'd like to edit.
  3. Tap on Edit in the upper right hand corner.
  4. Tap on the crop icon in the bottom navigation.
  5. Tap on the aspect ratio button underneath the dial.
  6. Tap on the ratio you'd like to use.
  7. Drag your finger on the dial to center the photo how you'd like it.
  8. Tap on Done in the bottom right hand corner when you're happy with the image.
