Thanks to iOS 7.1 and the super-fast Apple A7 processor the iPhone 5s can now be set to quickly and automatically take high dynamic range (HDR) photos whenever it senses both bright lights and deep shadows in the same image. That makes it great for photos where the sky is clear but the trees are dark or when you want to capture a friend or family member at home and the lighting balance leaves a lot to be desired. Best of all, auto-HDR is really easy to turn on!

How to enable HDR Auto on the iPhone 5s

  1. Launch the Camera app
  2. Tap on the HDR at the top.
  3. Choose HDR Auto.

That's it. Your iPhone 5s will now choose when it's appropriate to use HDR, and when it's not. No longer will you have to remember to turn on the HDR setting and potentially miss a shot if you forget.

Do you use HDR on your iPhone regularly? Has it helped you capture better balanced photos? Let me know in the comments!
