Every time I stick a music CD (standard cda format) into my CD-ROM, it
starts playing. A player control appears, but even if I X it to close
it, it continues to play each track.

If I right-click on the blue bar at the top of the player, I do not see
an About option to identify the player. Task Manager doesn't show any
application or process that may be responsible.

What's doing the playing? How do I disable Auto Play?

Thanks,

Ray

Some extra data: Task Manager shows System Idle Process as using 98%
CPU, and my firewall using the other two percent.
Doesn't matter if all my applications are closed, or some of them (e.g.,
my browser and email program) are open.

I tried to disable through Device Manager/CD-ROM, but there was no
option. I got it to stop auto playing by going into the registry and
doing this (from a 10-04-2000 post here:

http://www.sharkyforums.com/archive/index.php/t-37761.html

open regedit then go to:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Cdrom

you should see a key called "Autorun"
right click on it and select modify,
change the value data from 1 to 0,
then reboot http://www.sharkyforums.com/ubb/wink.gif

While that fix the problem, I'm still curious as to what the player is.
