how to send data from flash drive to windows 8

I have a Toshiba Satellite windows 8 laptop. I have put data from my old XP onto a flash drive but can't figure out how to transfer it onto windows 8. When I plug the USB in , an ad for Clickfree appears and now nothing at all happens. Am I supposed to get the flash drive going some other way? I am not very PC minded so would appreciate a simple answer. Thanks.
