Purchase a PCI drive controller card.

Or purchase an adapter to convert the IDE drives to SATA, but I found that
these can be a bit flakey.

An IDE to USB enclosure can also be used

Why the SATA to IDE or IDE to SATA converter is " a bit flakey?

Any brand is OK?
Would the card affect the data through the harddisk? Is it reliable?
Thanks

Not all adapter devices were designed correctly. Some are
not complete implementations. To buy one, you have to check
the reviews, do a google search to discover the history
of the device. If other people report good results, then
you should get good results as well.

Amen to that!
I had one that took forever to initialize on boot under XP, and then would
not work at all with a newer motherboard and Vista.
It was a Highpoint RocketHead 100. I doubt you'll be offered this model, but
avoid!

What exactly does "Would the card affect the data through the hard disk"
mean?
I prefer the Promise brand of cards, but most will give you no problems.
