How to hook up ONE SATA hardrive in RAID ?

Hello,

I am trying to hook up a SATA hard drive (WD 36 Gig, Raptor) onto an ASUS P4C800-E motherboard. This MoBo has 2 set of SATA connections. One set is mark SATA1, and SATA2; the other set mark as SATA RAID 1, and SATA RAID2.

I connected the Raptor to SATA RAID 1, and have BIOS setting as:
Configure S-ATA as Raid: YES
Serial-ATA BOOTROM: DISABLE
Operating Mode: RAID
Boot Sequence: 1) CD-Rom 2) Floppy 3) FT TX ARY 1

After POST, it either gives me: Overclocking failed (Didn't even touch overclocking in Bios). Press F1 to run set up, or F2 to load default.

The Raptor, and another SATA hard drive were connected to the SATA 1, and SATA2 before, and perform normal. Since I am adding a Plextor DVD with SATA connector, I decided to RELOCATE the Raptor hard drive to SATA RAID1 connectors, and let the other drive sit out for now.

I read the manual, it doesn't mention anything about connect, or setup RAID with 1 hard drive. IS This why it doesn't boot ?

Thanx in advance.

For raid you need 2 disks. There should be an option in the motherboard bios to disable raid on the controller so you can run one drive. I have one sata drive running without a problem by shutting off raid on the controller.

Hello Bob,

Thanks for responding. I have tried as you suggest by setting these 2 in bios:
-> Configure SATA as Raid: NO
-> Onboard Promise Controller: DISABLE

The reason I had to 'disable' the onboard promise controller because if left enable, I will have another choice to pick is: Operating Mode in RAID or IDE. I have tried either of those but cd-rom won't boot.

I must have not done something right. Does any1 know ? Please show me, I am at a dead end right now.
