For most of us, cellular data through our carrier is limited. Whether you're traveling internationally or you're about to hit your data cap for the month, turning off cellular data completely lets you rest assured you won't be hit with overage charges. Here's how:

How to turn off cellular data on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or cellular capable iPad.
  2. Now tap on Cellular — on the iPad, it's labeled Cellular Data.
  3. Turn the option for Cellular Data to Off.

Alternately, if you're only concerned with roaming charges, you can turn off Data Roaming in the same menu as cellular data. This option should stop your iPhone or iPad from roaming on any network other than your provider's. Another great option for international travel. However, I have heard stories of people using this option and still getting hit with overages. If you want to play it safe, it's best to disable cellular data altogether when traveling abroad.
