I need to update the inventory lists for 100 PCs, including hardware and
software with S/N or Licence No. Does anyone have any suggestions on any
simply way to collect all this information? rather sitting on user's computer
all day long for searching for those information.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Eric

Have you considered system audit software like Everest or Belarc?

http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php
http://www.belarc.com/

Many have demo versions so you can see if they will collect the information
you actually need, before committing to purchase.

This is a rather simple program but what it does is dump stats about a
PC to a text file named after the PC. Like Eric.txt
I have an old 2003 version and I just put it on the file server and sent
an email to my office to execute S:\m2\xxxxx.bat (or whatever).

Everyone did it, then I just read all the text files.
Oops. In re-reading your post, I'm not sure it does the software.
Still, its yours to test anyway if you want.

Al.

Thank everyone very much for suggestions
For belarc, which fail to install, and I try 3 times already
For lavalys, which show only hardware information.
Does anyone have any more suggestions on any free tools to collect software
installed with serial no. or licence no.
Thank everyone very much for any suggestions

You are the first person that's I know of that says Belarc Advisor
won't install. It's probably one of the most widely used utilities of
its type.

We use Belarc on MANY different types of PC's and have never seen it
fail on any of them, thousands.....

If it's failing on your test PC's then you need to follow the directions
- are you logged on as a local administrator?

You should reconsider your install technique. It's very, very simple and
reliable.

What errors did you get?
Did you check with Belarc about them?

No, it does not. Are you sure you actually ran it?

Belarc and Everest. They work well.

Thank everyone very much for suggestions
The problem is solved, after I get the report, then I will uninstall it.
Will it cause any problem if I install this application later and request for
the same information?
On the other hands, if I need to check 100 PCs, do I need to install this
application in each PC and uninstall it. Can I simply install on 1 PC and
check other PCs through network? therefore, I don't need to install this
application on 100 PCs.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank everyone very much for any suggestions
