XP4ME

At work our CPU's run on Windows XP Professional. We all have varying amounts
of RAM in our CPU's. I have 512 in mine...I've heard many a rumor about how
much memory is needed to have XP run well, can any help me know how much I
need? I am generally running 3-5 programs at a time and my computer seems so
slow.

Watch for heavy drive activity, if you are using programs and hitting
the Pagefile a lot, then boosting RAM will help. On the other hand if
the drive is being accessed in PIO mode (due to errors) instead of DMA,
then the PC will be slow also. Open Device Manager and check the Primary
IDE channel Properties , Advanced tab and see what access is being
used. If PIO, you may uninstall and reinstall and cause it to go back to
DMA.
