I have Windows XP

In the Documents and
Settings/MyName/AppliationData there is a "My
Recent Documents" file that lists all files I
have accessed.

How can I switch this off permantely?

Please help, Frank

Frank;
Right click task bar and click Properties
Click Start Menu/Customize /Advanced
Near the bottom, uncheck "List my most..."
Click OK
You may also want to click "Clear list"

This folder does seem to be a bit of overkill...
However, what you see are merely shortcuts. So don't expect much of a
reduction is disk usage by deleting everything in the folder.

The OP might be dealing in porn and wants to have the .doc traces
removed.

Right click the START BUTTON > PROPERTIES > CUSTOMIZED >ADVANCED
At the bottom you'll see " List my most recently opened documents "
Remove the check mark and use the CLEAR button to empty it
