I have tried to delete all the sounds that come with Windows XP but there is
one lingering sound. It appears to be a sound to notify the user when
downloading a file has been completed.

How can I get rid of what I hope is the last annoying sound?

Thank you.

Many download managers have that option and that sound can be disabled
via their settings in most cases.

In case that you're downloading with plain IE: Control Panel > Internet
Options > Advanced tab > untick that notify option.

Addendum: Maybe that this option has to be *checked* in order to disable
that sound. Can't test this at the moment due to an installed download
manager working under IE as well.
