How could I prevent Windows XP from counting the size of dir in Windows Explorer?

In Windows Explorer, when I put select a dir, it will try to count the
size of this dir. I find it makes my Windows XP a little slow.
Can I change this behavior by configuration?

I don't think there is any way to accomplish this. The system assumes you
want this information when you select the folder.
