how can i sync my htc hd2 without disc

I have recently purchased a used HTC HD2 Windows phone, when I attached it to my laptop via the cable it said it would only work through Vista, but I have recently updated to Windows 7. How can I sync my phone to my laptop, as no disc was included either and are there are any updates I can download via wireless connection. It runs on 6.5. Many thanks.
