I simply dont get this, and its sooooooooooo frustrating, i just recently got my first pc (old mac user) i have a ASUS k8v se deluxe mobo, AMD 64 3200, 6800 gt, 1 gig ram, and when i run CoD i gte avg fps of 40-60, which i thought was weird, but understandable, but then when i got ahold of 3dmark03, i realized that i was getting a score of 6500, when everyone else gets 11,000 or more, whats the problem here? makes NO sense AT ALL, can somone please help me

First things I'd check on are:

-Get the latest driver revision from nVidia
-Make sure that your DirectX version is up to date (should be; not any recent updates I can remember)
-Check out the task manager to see if something is sucking up processor time (under the processes tab, everything but 'System Idle Process' should be around 0 when the system is idling)

If you're still getting a performance hit after that, it might be a good time to look around for info on your particular card (most all 6800GTs are the same, but each manufacturer might have a little quirk). It might be that there are Windows settings that can speed it up, or a particular driver version that works better than the latest one (its not unheard of for a new release nVidia driver to cause problems).

From a hardware standpoint, you might want to look into the running temperature of the card; if its getting hot your airflow might be restricted (modern graphics cards will throttle down to keep from burning out). Lastly, your power supply may not be able to put out enough to support the card. Make sure that the hard drive power connector you used is on the lowest loaded chain coming out of the power supply (if there are two connectors, they should be on different chains). Your power supply rating may also be too low; the 6800 series can pull down more than 200W of power under operation.

sounds like you prolly have v-synch on. disable vsynch only whenh benchmarking and make sure you aren't forcing anti aliasing or anisotropic filtering when benchmarking either.

this would most likely explain why your frames top out at 60 in cod, if vsynch is on then you get the same number of fps as your refresh rate.

also since you're kind of new to pc's i would check out a program called refrsh force. if you are running at 60hz then your eyes are probably going to get strained after a while. refresh force will force windows to run at the highest refresh rate your monitor can handle for every resolution it supports.

reforce will also allow for more fps with vsynch enabled if thats is a concern.
