Hi there,

I seem to have lost the ability to auto view a video file. For instance I
can be on a web site which may have a .avi , .mpg or.wmv file which I would
like to view, up until recently if I double clicked such a file it would
auto fire up Media Player and I could watch the video content. This facility
has stopped working.

If the same kind of file is on my PC and I click on it it will then auto
fire up Media Player and I can watch the video with no problem.

I am using Vista Home Premium with Media Player 11, I am not not sure if
this did not happen when SP1 for Vista went on , could be wrong though.
Would appreciate any hints or tips please. Thanks in advance
Chris

Since you are able to play files on the hard drive, then WMP is
working properly. Check your firewall settings to make sure that it
wasn't blocked by mistake. If you use a proxy program like
Proxomitron, try using WMP with the proxy software disabled or
by-passed. Finally, you could check the Network settings within WMP.
Go to Tools\Options to the Network Tab. I can't remember since I don't
let WMP to the net, but I think the 3 protocols should have a check
next to it. Hopefully one of them will solve your problem.

What exactly happens when you click on it these days?

Speaking for myself only.
See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.
