Key Words: Microsoft UAA Bus Driver, HD Audio, KB888111, AD1988B, HDA
audio bus driver is required and not found, Windows XP SP2,
hdaudbus.sys

If you are trying to install the SoundMax High Definition Audio driver
for any variations of the Analog Devices Inc AD1988 chip under Windows
XP SP2 and nothing else works. Here is what fixed it for me.

Note - If you don't know what REGEDIT, KEYS and VALUES means, or any
of this sounds like geek to you - Do NOT try this method. You will
hoark up your machine even more.

1) Regedit and search for any occurances of "Soundmax", "UAA", "HD
Audio", "KB888111", and "Analog Devices". Delete the KEYs above any
values that contains one of these search terms.

2) Reboot. Do NOT let Windows install any new hardware.

3) Check Device Manager, you should have a Yellow/Exclamation unknown
PCI Device that wasn't there before. (It's the HDA Bus, but it won't
say that).

4) Download and run the HP patch SP33867, and the Intel fix
kb888111xpsp2.exe

6) Reboot. Let Windows autoinstall any new hardware.

7) Check Device Manager, you should have a Yellow/Exclamation "Audio
Device on High Definition Audio Bus ..." that wasn't there before.

8) Download and run the SoundMax install package designed for your
brand/configuration. e.g. HP SP37155, ASUS AD1988B_2KXP_51014580, etc.

-) If either of the above installs says it can't find hdaudbus.sys,
browse to c:\windows\system32.
