this is super frustrating and when it happened i got the "blue screen of death" but it was the memory dump and it only showed up for about 10 seconds and my laptop [which is a dell latitude c540/c640 business laptop with 512MB of ram, a 1.7 GHz processor and a 20GB hard drive.] shut off so i rebooted it and to my surprise i was looking at what could be best described as hirogliphics. (sorry about the spelling with all the menus looking like this spell check is useless.) i run CCleaner and Avast on my laptop [ive found that Avast doesnt slow down machines like Norton or McAfee and what Avast doesnt get, CCleaner does.] and now Avast doesnt run at all and CCleaner doesnt find any errors in the registry. does anybody know how to fix this because i cant read anything besides in certain programs and to select almost anything i have to go by memory and icons so pictures of icons or links to how-to videos would be appreciatted. thanks!
