I tried Ubuntu for a few days and that was enough. Off it went into the bit bucket. Ubuntu may be good for some, but if you need to rely on MS products, Ubuntu isn't the way to go.

Now let's wait for Alias to chime in.

Well don't, It really does suck. I though I would be fare and give it a try, (installed v8.04) I've used Microsoft OS since Windows 3.1. I tried it for awhile and it is not worth a crap.

Anything you want to do is 10 times more involving to get accomplished and hardware support is a joke. Not to mention necessary applications that a person needs to manage their needs.

Just forget about playing a game from this decade also, so save yourself the time it takes to download the program (4hrs, 61KiB/s through put was all the server would allow for a connection) and stick with a proven OS that has a real future for all and keep your Windows.

I've been using Vista from the begging and it is just wonderful. Any complaining you here about it is coming from about 1% or less of users. It will always be that way so don't worry about it.

P.S. I know this is off topic for the forum but after reading some posts here I just needed to speak my mind. Thanks and have a great Vista day.......

Alias and I have only one thing in common with regard
to operating systems. He claims he has no issues whatsoever running
Ubuntu and I have no issues whatsoever running Windows Vista.

However, Alias cannot seem to understand that this is
a Windows Vista newsgroup and he really needs to take
his "business" (sic) to the Ubuntu forums.

Yes, you are 100% correct. I wish he would take his business and help those
people in the Ubuntu forums. With the amount of effort he puts in here, he
could help lots over there. Oh well.

I really do not think that comparisons between Vista and Ubuntu or other OS
are off topic.

Its important for people to be informed of choices, and that will keep
Microsoft on guard to improve their products because of competition.

Alias mostly compares vista with ubuntu... Since vista is on one side of the
comparison, it is on-topic.

Failed again MVP, huh?.... being a stubborn net cop is not looked upon
positively in newsgroups.

Well, I bet when you visit your dentist, you also
discuss your foot aliments, hair loss, wife's
monthly PMS issues, etc.

Or maybe when you take your vehicle in for
repairs or maintenance, you also discuss with
the mechanic what color to paint your house,
or how to fix a broken A/C unit, or how to
paper-train a new puppy.

These comparisons reflect exactly your type of
off-topic, non-requested, unsolicited posts
submitted to the:

"WINDOWS VISTA GENERAL NEWSGROUP".

What were you hardware problems, and what software did you need that you
couldn't find?

Didn't change your Software Source to a server near you, and kept the
default server, huh?

That is such a n00b mistake, but one that is easily remedied.

Because you were too ignorant to give Linux a real try?

MS makes their users beg to use Vista? No wonder it is much slower in
being adopted as compared to XP!

Yep, some people actually think its wonderful to get down on their knees.

Really? Then why is Vista's user base not growing at the same rate or
better than XP did?

Tell your dentist next time he needs to remove a tooth to go in rectally.
That should help your situation.

Nah, better comparison is toaster to coffee-maker. You have some similar
moving parts, but toaster enthusiasts are not by default also coffee-maker
enthusiasts, and thus chatter in toaster venues about coffee-makers would
likely be deemed off-topic. Etc etc etc. I think we can all agree that
people have different levels of strengths in Win32, MacOS, and U*IX
development/use/troubleshooting - crossing the streams might be interesting
to the few but is just noise to most.

And speaking for myself only most of the noise around here would be
greatly diminished if the rabid MS fanboys (I am not including you)
around here would just ignore any mention of things linux.

And that ain't gonna happen any more than the linux advocates can be
stopped.

Sad. I know. But hey, such is life. And better this than the
alternative. Making these kinds of newsgroups private, and even harder
to access.

So... you post about Ubuntu in OS X NG's or on the Apple discussion forums?

That guy -only- compares Vista with Ubuntu. So I guess it would be OK to
compare Vista with anything then... Vista vs. Solaris. Vista vs. Red
Hat. Oops, they threw in the towel on the desktop.

And being a stubborn net jihadist is not appreciated either. Ubuntu in
Ubuntu NG's. Seems pretty straightforward...
