harddrive not reconized

Recently my coputer does not reconize my second harddrive. I am not sure when or why this happened. Not sure if it is from installing Windowsxp service pack2 or if there is a virus. Could it be my motherboard? Help!
 
Recently my computer is not reconizing my 2nd HDD. Have had no problems with this in the past. I installed Windowsxp service pack2, but no help. I have tried changing how it sees the HDD by swapping the cables on the HDD's, no help. I checked my BIOS and it is listed there, what can be the problem and how do I remedy it? Thanks.
 
Do you have some sort of bootdisk you could start from? Either Windows boot disks, or an old set of DOS disks, or even a Linux live CD would work. Just to see if anything else can see the disk. It doesn't sound like a controller problem, as the BIOS saw it and you tried swapping the cables. You may also want to look in the device manager to see if the drive appears there.
