Hiya guys. I bought a HP Pavillion G6 last March with Windows 8 already on it. Recently, whilst staying at a friends, my laptop was on his floor, and a nice (very large) beautiful piece of ornate driftwood that he had propped against a wall decided that my laptop looked like a comfy place to sit, and therein made a beeline for it. The result was a broken screen..not so bad (or so I thought). The next day during normal use, everything froze up, and upon reboot the system refused to load. After doing the relevant BIOS checks, it seems my hard drive has gone to sleep for good (Long DST fails its check every time)

My Dilemma

I obviously have the added concern of being able to retrieve any of my data from the sleepy hard drive, but that's not paramount for you guys, as you will just tell me off for not backing up my data! :) My first concern is this. I know I have to buy a new hard drive, but I have also paid for my copy of Windows 8. A little bit of browsing on the internet tells me that the Windows serial key is now embedded in the BIOS of my machine, which is a relief, however, once I order a new hard drive, to my knowledge it will be completely blank. So how do I then get Windows 8 downloading back onto the machine? By the way, if disks came with this computer (which I dont think they did...but may be wrong, it was quite a while ago)..they have since been lost.

Any ideas guys?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks again, Chris
