the RHS of the desktop is woeful.
Is it possible to remove?

Welcome to the Windows XP General newsgroup...
What are you talking about? It sounds like you are not talking about
Windows XP at all?

Thanks for the welcome,
perhaps I am not talking XP, gadgets arrived with my OS
and a google shows MS Gadgets are flourishing.
Funny thing, if you try and take a screenshot, gadgets disappear.
I'll guess I have to mosey elswhere for assistance
Thanks Shenan.

It's a good thing to have someone happy here, for a change. Most people just
bitch and moan.

Can you tell me where to get a clock-face on your desktop like you have? It
sounds like something many of us would like. :>

G'day Alan,
currently chasing it up.
I cannot capture a screenshot, the blighters disappear!

Try googling "microsoft Gadgets" or perhaps "sidebar" or "microsoft
sidebar"
this "gadgeting" is gaining a rapid following, there are all sorts of
utilities
ebay auction following, calculators, radio etc & etc.
How good they are is anyones guess
but the clock face is a winner.
Best regards
Rod.

2005

According to Sean Alexander, a group product manager with the Redmond,

Wash.-based developer, the so-called "gadgets" in Vista will be produced for
Windows XP as well.

"Gadgets will be available on XP -- officially," he wrote on his blog.

This one is sweet with many faces available. Resize, etc

Rod;
Are you saying you have Gadgets designed by Microsoft for Windows XP?
If so, where did you get them?
there will probably be support options there.

Otherwise it appears you have Windows Vista and you should ask this in
a Windows Vista newsgroup.

Certainly not,
just pointing to evidence, on the web.

Perhaps you can navigate to here
http://vista-sidebar-xp.en.softonic.com/

Unless you've been living in a hut in the Gobi desert for the last few
months.....................

Rod, you're either an idiot or a troll or both.

That is not a Microsoft site or program.
and there is no evidence on that page that suggests Microsoft is
working on anything of the kind for Windows XP.

"Windows XP is no more, having being replaced by Vista."
I almost stopped here since it is simply WRONG.
So much so that it is a bad to have been said.
Many believe such and then think they need to upgrade because of this
FUD.
The article is so wrong, it has a good probability to mislead.

From the article:
"Patched together from early Vista beta releases"
In other words, code that was deemed unsuitable for Windows Vista and
possibly illegally copied.

Windows XP is alive and well.
Microsoft will soon release Service Pack 2 and support will probably
continue for several more years.

As for replacing windows XP, not today.
Since Windows XP is alive and well, Windows XP and Windows Vista will
continue to coexist together as has always been the plan.

So you may get your facts straight:
http://blog.seanalexander.com/PermaLink,guid,68219237-8a71-457f-96f4-d53778747a00.aspx
Do not expect gadgets.
Of course if you have something more current than 2 years ago about
Gadgets on Windows XP, give us the source.

Do not overrate Product Managers, the title is not what it appears,
especially when so many working on each product have that title.

Finally, blogs although written by Microsoft employees, are not always
a reliable source of information, although they are better than most.
Microsoft employees are largely free to blog with little or no other
oversight or correction from others and thus can and as this
demonstrates can be wrong.
His is his and not even a Microsoft blog, so nothing said there is
official anyways.
For authoritative information from Microsoft, skip blogs and get the
information from Microsoft's knowledgebase or some other official
site.
Blogs are not official for the reasons already mentioned..

Thanks for your clarification,
it has been made, abundantly clear now what happened,
I needed a seamless transfer from 98 to XP
and my XP including wireless nw was loaded and set up by another.
In their wisdom, they loaded a non genuine utility, and when
I took control thought it part of the OS.
I was quite prepared to get assistance elsewhere,
but reading the other advice from Google about gadgets being on XP
assumed they did exist.
I appreciate the polite correction.
Rod.
