Gradual performance degradation on XP SP2 on Quad Core Intel

Hi, has anyone seen this after upgrading to a Quad Core CPU. It may be
unrelated and just a coincidence that this occured after I upgraded
but the problem is quite bad now where I have to consider yet another
fresh XP rebuild.

When I boot the machine (It is now standalone, not part of a domain),
everything runs super fast. IE starts instantly, menu appear super
fast but then after afew days, IE takes up to 10-15 seconds to start,
the programs menu takes 10-15 seconds to expand and diasplay the menu
items.

Core processing of apps once they are running seem to be ok, the issue
mainly exists when apps are started and stopped. Maybe this is another
lsass issue or something, I am not sure.

I don't see any memory leaks and CPU is never high when I have this
issue. Machine has 4GB RAM and I get issue with and without swap file
enabled.

I have VMWare Workstation 6 on this machine but I have problem when it
is both running and shutdown. I have changed anti virus from SAV to
NOD32 and I also ran the Symentc cleanup binary they provide to fix
the uninstall problems.

I am stumped as I can't see anything obvious that is creating the
issue, no memory, cpu or other clues are visible.

The situation I have now is every few days I have to reboot the darn
thing and then I am back to fast response times for another few days
(up to a week). Very annoying !!

Generally, the machine works 100%, it's just that day by day the
application startups become slower and slower until they are
unbearable.

Any ideas ?

Mark
