To my dear Whistler (Windows XP),
When we met in 2001 I had no idea that we would be together so long. I had dated some of your kindred (Chicago, Daytona, and Cairo) but when we met I knew that we were destined for each other. Now, after 13 years, it will be sad to see you leave. One would have thought that it would have been I who left you. I am the itchy one, you are the stable one. There were certainly plenty of opportunities for me to leave. But those newer, seemingly more attractive versions of you (Longhorn, Vienna), never really captivated me quite the way that you did.
Sadly, I have been forced to make a decision, a decision that I knew would come some day. And, I am sorry to say that I have decided to forgo your kindred Blue and opt for another. I am told that her name is Mavericks and she arrives next week. It is an odd name to be sure, but one that feels right somehow.
