I was runnng disk clean-up when it glitched and told me to put in my Windows
XP disk to restore some files. I did, then after it loaded and I got the disk
cleaner screen back, I canceled the run. I played a few games of solitare,
and when I went to shut down, the computer froze. I clicked C Alt Del and it
came up with the window that lists the different functions. I tried clicking
on Task Manager, but it was frozen. Lock Computer was automatically selected,
I hit C Alt Del again. Now I have a screen with my User Name showing, but the
password is filled with XXXXX's that don't delete. HELP! I'm scared to turn
my computer off! I had to borrow a computer to write this. Now what do I do?

See if you can change the user name to "Administrator", and blank the
password, and OK it.

Dont forget there's "safe mode" to play around in. Shut down and restart
and keep hitting f8 at boot up until you get the menu for safe mode. I hope
you get it sorted from there.

WOOOHOOO! I typed in administrator, but it still told me I had to put my own
name in. However, it did then let me delete the password, so I just put my
name in and it worked!!!!!! It even went back to the game I had going when I
tried to quit. THANKS, I'd been afraid to turn off my computer for two days
and I really needed it!
