Gets the error message that Windows 8 is running out of memory and to close the applications

So I play at lot of games using my Windows 8 laptop. I have 6 GB of RAM which should be enough to play most games. However, when I run Steam chat and a game, my computer often displays a message say that I'm running out of memory and should close programs. However, my computer never runs out of memory and is only very close to maximum memory useage. I would like to know if there is anyway to disable this message, as it is interfering with my gaming.
