Will this phone call cost $59.00? I was hoping for support from this user
group. Has anyone here delt with the UAA driver?

Only if you ask for something OTHER than the hotfix. The other option is
the e-mail request line they provide there.

If it is late at night, and you don't want to wake anyone up at Microsoft
to get 888111, there is another way. 888111 was bundled with some
driver downloads, so you can get it from a driver package. This
is from a previous posting, only I had to correct the FTP address.

********
The original UAA driver was included with some audio driver
packages. It won't be the latest UAA driver, but it should be
enough to allow you to proceed further.

First, go here. There are five files to this download (~83MB total).
Look near the bottom of the returned list:

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/RealTek/

Realtek51005127-part1.zip 20239KB
Realtek51005127-part2.zip 20247KB
Realtek51005127-part3.zip 20247KB
Realtek51005127-part4.zip 20224KB
Realtek51005127-part5.zip 2016KB

Once unzipped, the first part is a RAR self-executing decompressor.
It expects to find the other parts in the same folder, as near as I
can remember.

Realtek51005127.part5.rar
Realtek51005127.part4.rar
Realtek51005127.part3.rar
Realtek51005127.part2.rar
Realtek51005127.part1.exe <--- Execute this one

The majority of the download is the original Microsoft
UAA driver. Multiple languages are supported, and that makes the
UAA component about 24 times bigger than it has to be. You'll find
files like this down in the MSHDQFE folder. One for Win2K, one for
WinXP SP1 and one for WinXP SP2. Use the one for your language and
OS, as appropriate.

kb888111w2ksp4.exe (about 700KB each)
kb888111xpsp1.exe
kb888111xpsp2.exe

Once this is installed and after a reboot, then you can try the Realtek
driver again.
*******

HTH,
Paul
