Gadget Side Bar and Minimizing

Is there a setting so the gadget side bar doesn't minimize when I select the
minimize icon in the quick launch area?

Hi,

No, but as an alternative you can use winkey+m to minimize all open windows
without affecting the gadget bar. The icon is akin to winkey+d, which clears
the desktop.
