Hi,

I'm looking for a freeware ramdisk driver/program for XP which allowes
to create big ramdisks (1 GB or bigger).

A long time ago I was using xmsdsk.exe, but as I read it doesn't work in XP.

My "biggest success" is a 329 MB ramdisk - "AR Soft RAM Disk 1.20":

Do you know a freeware solution for XP to make bigger ramdisks?

Thanks in advance and
Best regards~~Piotrek~~pe3no.

AR Soft RAM Disk 1.20 is suppose supply up to 2GB

May I ask what you want a ramdisk (of any size) for? With *very* rare
exceptions (in special circumstances), using a ramdisk in Windows is
counterproductive.

This is the Second Millennium... ramdisks have been useless since the
previous one.

Actually Uncle Grumpy, there is a time when they are very
effective for me. I write databases in Clarion, and when I
compile I can cut my compile time by 80% if I put the entire
Clarion application on a RAM disk and run the Clarion
application from the RAM disk. For Clarion, compilation is
VERY hard disk intensive so having all the ancillary files
on a RAM disk is very nice.

I run a laptop as my development machine, but would not
recommend this approach for a person using a desktop unless
it has a properly function UPS.

Hello again,

I found what I needed - stable and freeware :)
The site is in Russian: http://ramdisk.nm.ru/ramdiskent-rus.htm
The driver also: http://ramdisk.nm.ru/RAMDisk_Enterprise_530105_Russian.zip

There is an English version but you have to pay or use
"Evaluation" version - where you receive pop-up messages.
