I'm sure a/v screen cap software exists. But not so sure there would be a
free version.

Does anyone know of such a thing? Recommendations?

Recommendations for not-so-free versions of same?... but not too expensive
either?

Thanks.

Ignore the "Debut Video Recording Software 1.34"... it's part of a package
from NCH Software that installs a bunch of links on the start menu, and each
time you click on any one of those links, it downloads and installs a new
program without asking.

Ronaldo-

I appreciate your follow-ups.

I should mention that I had already looked into one of the first ones you
mentioned: "Freez Screen Video Capture." The downloaded .exe file was only
77KB, which made me wonder if it would simply direct me to a webpage where I
would be told more about the product, like how much it costs, etc. This
seemed like the more benign possibility for such a small file. Their website
-----------------------
http://www.smallvideosoft.com/screen-video-capture/
-----------------------
was also less than reassuring. Couldn't find any meaningful info under
their FAQ or CONTACT US sections. I have not and will not bother launching
their EXE file.

On the other hand,
-----------------------
http://camstudio.org/
-----------------------
CamStudio looks quite promising, particularly, since it's an open source
application, and everything I've seen so far suggests that it's legit.

Thanks again for your help.

Most will not capture video overlay such as that from DVD and streaming
video players as this would violate the DMCA.

For screen recording software applications, there are some free ones like
Camstudio, TipCam and Jing Project. A comercial one I am using is
DemoCreator, which is wonderful for website demo and software tutorial making
for its powerful editing function and reasonable price.
