Found......reason for XP stall after startup.

Just wanted to reveal what I found after having intermittent
periods of Windows XP stalling completely out within a minute
after startup. The only function I would have was the mouse
pointer movement. No clicking, no ctrl alt del task manager, no
start menu functionality. I would have to hold the start button
on the computer in just to shut down.

Some how when updates were present at the Microsoft site my
Trend Micro Antiivirus 2007 would have some sort of conflict with the
windows update notification service. If I shut Trend Micro down I
wouldn't have the problem. As soon as I shut Trend Micro down the
updates notification would show. (Previously it would hang before the
notification window popped up.) I would then update and restart. After
the successful update I would turn Trend Micro back on. As long as
there are no updates everything works fine. Weeks later, or as soon as
the next update shows up on the Microsoft site my stalling problem
would start over again.

I decided I needed Trend Micro more than update so I solved the
problem by turning off the automatic update notification function.

I now still have to first turn Trend Micro off before I manually check
for Microsoft updates. Hope this may be helpful to someone.
