I have two compaq presarion laptops both were set up with winXP sp3. Since Xp support has gone away, I thought I would give Lubuntu a try on one of them.
Being extremely disappointed with the whole linux/ubuntu-lubuntu experience, I wanted to bring back XP. My initial attemps went something like this.
After several attemps, I [think?] I finalaly deleted the linux - lubuntu OS. NEXT I re-installed windows home sp1 and updated that to sp3 using a SELF-
EXTRACTING download [from Microsoft on a USB stick.
Everything was fine, set up desktop, set up IE8, shortcuts to various websites, some other programs, etc. One ongoing problem I was ahving was the
mouse flicker violently until I would get into other programs and even then acted sporaticley.
I set up that laptopwith all the various program options and settings that I have on this laptop as a guide.
Well, to make a very long story - short, I cant boot that laptop.
When I power up I get the Compaq screen with the [esc f2 - f12 options]
pressing f2 displays "entering setup" and does nothing
after powerup agian
pressing f-12 displays "booting from LAN" and does nothing
after powerup again
pressing Esc. displays the following:
PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0
