Firewall not loading on start

Xp Home. I've just started using Windows Firewall, after uninstalling a 3rd party firewall. I enabled the service and
started Windows Firewall. Rebooted. Checked theough security center -- it said no Firewall was enabled. I enabled it.

What am I doing wrong? I want the Firewall to start immediately, since I am on cable. Also, there seems to be no
notification whether Windows Firewall is working or not. I'd like a task bar icon. Is that possible?

Which firewall did you have before?
Some are very hard to totally remove.

I had Zone Alarm before. I uninstalled it, rebooted, went to services and turned off vsmon, rebooted, edited the registry to
remove ZA & vsmon entries, ran Vourni's RegCleaner to get rid of the strays, rebooted, ....

I do agree that vsmon was a stinker for staying in processes after ZA removal. I just want to make sure that Windows
Firewall starts up when I turn on the computer, and that isn't happening.

BTW, do you know of another free firewall that would allow me to monitor outbound connections?

Thanks!

If you used a registry ckeaner I'm afraid I can't help.

I got it fixed, Frank. Just curious -- you can help because you don't like registry cleaners, or because registry cleaners
make it impossible to find out the problem?

This pretty well covers it:

Think your Registry needs "cleaning"? Read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

Although the second reason works, too. Once someone has run a Registry
cleaner no one knows what's what anymore.
