Find the authors of files

Does anyone know of a tool that will extract the author information from a
list of files? I have thousands of old files on a shared server from many
authors that have accumulated over the years and I need to sort them out.
One thing that would really help me is if I could sort them according to who
wrote them, or what machine they were created on. Is there a way to do that
without opening the properties of each file individally?

The Indexing Service can search through the ADS for that type of
information, if you know the Author names you could search on them.
