After a recent windows security update, many of my file types are changed to
..bin and are now unreadable. What has caused this, how do I rectify it, and
how do I stop it from happening again? Any help would be appreciated.

Running xp home edition.

Although many things are possible, it seems unlikely that a security update
converted files. Please provide specific information like: how much is
many, what file types were converted, were all the files in a particular
file type converted, where were the files located, what caused you to notice
the .bin files, are there error messages involved, etc?
