I have posted this in the Excel forum but no joy. I was wondering if you
guys had any ideas relating to this

We have an excel spreadsheet on a network drive. One user accesses it in the
head office and other accesses it over VPN connections. Sometimes when
people access it and someone else has it open they don't get the popup to
say that it is already open. Is there some setting for this that needs
altering on the file? Also why would you get disk full errors when you try
and save changes although their are no quotas or limits for any user?

Thanks for the reply. We have tried that but when it is enabled in shared
workbook mode access to that files is drastically slow. Any thoughts on what
could be causing it that?

What if your project outgrows the shared workbook?

Over time, if you keep change history continuously, your shared workbook can
become so large that it's slow to load. If your worksheet is becoming too
large to use efficiently, find information in, and maintain; if managing
user access becomes time consuming for the number of users of the workbook;
or if you or users are constantly having to resolve conflicts, consider
converting the workbook to a Microsoft Access database. Access is a good
choice for any worksheet list that has become so large and complex that it's
difficult to maintain, because Access gives you true multiuser capability
and security features along with several options that can help you to
maintain data accuracy and integrity. Access is designed to allow you to
organize large amounts of data for efficient storage and retrieval.

Thats for getting back to me. The file is 2Mb and everyone is using Excel
2003 to access it. My ideal situation would be an access database but
unfortunately i wouldn't know where to start to write something like that.
