fast user switch not working

if another user is logged on and I attempt to do a fast user switch then
when I click on the the other user icon on the welcome screen, it seems like
windows is trying for a moment to load but then the welcome screen flashes a
little and it remains on the welcome screen!

If howerver I log off from the first account, then I can log on to the
second one from the welcome screen!

ALSO something has happened with the registry because I am an administrator
yet windows does not allow me to change some stuff that I want, I have to
right click and select an empty permission box so I can edit it...

any ideas?

I think xp is calling for a reinstall.... strange stuff going on!
 
I would guess that a 'repair' setup of XP would not fix your registry
issues. Barring the event of a corrupt user profile for this other account,
you might try resetting the registry Permissions. (I mention it because a
rash of this seems to be going around)
