SAN FRANCISCO — Facebook must face a nationwide class-action lawsuit that is seeking refunds from the giant social network for parents whose children spent their money on the website without permission.
That was the ruling of U.S. District Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman who on Tuesday paved the way for a class that could include hundreds of thousands.
The plaintiffs in the class cannot pursue refunds as a group because the refunds would vary, but can seek individual refunds, according to Reuters.
Facebook says the lawsuit is without merit.
The lawsuit was filed in April 2012 by two children and their parents. They contend Facebook let children use their parents’ credit and debit cards to buy Facebook Credits and refused refunds when parents complained.
