External drive not showing contents?

Yesterday I bought a brand new 500GB WD external drive to load one of my music collections for my Macbook Air but my pc would not recognize it so I reformatted it from Journaled to MS-DOS on the mac, connected to my pc then copied the 408gb music files to it, this morning when I checked, the files were no longer showing and strangely enough in My Computer, that drive is showing 41gb Free of 465gb. I then checked the Folder Options but the the "Show hidden files" was checked, any ideas please?
 
Not my area of expertise I feel like we are missing a step somewhere Mike. What are the files actually? Obviously they are there but are unreadable.
 
Believe it or not Rich, now the files are showing again, I have no idea what the heck happened there.
