Hi Folks,

I have recently upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP Pro. When I open windows
explorer or IE it hangs. I found that by stopping the "DCOM Service Process
Launcher" service that explorer works OK. However this service is needed for
other applications and I would prefer to have it running. Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Derek

Just in case any-one else has the problem, I have found the solution.

On investigation in Event viewer I can across this error:

The server {A1F4E726-8CF1-11D1-BF92-0060081ED811} did not register with DCOM
within the required timeout.

This ID refers to the Windows service: Windows Image Aquisition (WIA) and in
turn this service is used by scanners.

I deleted the scanner from device manager and removed the scanner software
from Add/Remove programs. After a re-boot XP auto detected tyhe scanner and
I re-installed the driver and software. This stop the WIA time out and I was
able to use DCOM again without any hanging in Explorer.

I hope this helps any-one else who comnes across this problem in the future.

Derek
