EXCEL DATE FORMAT - US to UK

Hi there....reaching the end of my tether! Can someone out there shed soem
light??

Creating data in excel for mail merge in word, cells are formatted to
English UK, regional settings are English UK. However, when i merge to word
it picks up in American US format MM/DD/YY

Please can someone help me????????
