Why migrate to Microsoft Graph?

Microsoft Graph is the future of Microsoft 365 development. It is the recommended way to access and integrate with Microsoft 365 data and services. However, we understand that many apps and tools are still using legacy APIs, such as Outlook REST API and Exchange Web Services (EWS), that were developed before Microsoft Graph. These legacy APIs are being deprecated, and now is the time to prepare for this change and migrate to Microsoft Graph.

What is the EWS to Microsoft Graph Migration Guide Series?

It is a new initiative to provide you with the guidance and resources you need to migrate from EWS to Microsoft Graph. The series will consist of several publications that will cover different aspects of the migration process, such as:

  • How to identify and assess your current usage of EWS
  • How to plan and execute a migration strategy
  • How to leverage the features and capabilities of Microsoft Graph to enhance your apps and solutions
  • How to troubleshoot and resolve common migration issues and challenges

The publications will be available in various formats, such as blog posts, videos and podcasts. We will provide code samples, tools, and templates to help you with the migration. We will make these available in either the Microsoft Developer Blog or the Exchange Tech Community depending on the primary target audience. We will make sure to update this “Guide Series” post every time a new resource is out so you can use this as a sort of index or table of contents.

We are launching this series, to help you transition from legacy APIs to the new standard API for Microsoft 365. We want to ensure that you can take advantage of the latest and greatest features and capabilities of Microsoft Graph, and that you can avoid any potential risks or issues that may arise from the deprecation of legacy APIs. We want to accompany you on this journey and provide you with the best practices and resources that you need to succeed.

Let’s get started!

We hope that you are excited about this initiative and that you will join us on the journey of migrating to Microsoft Graph. We look forward to working with you and helping you achieve more with Microsoft 365. We will update the list below with every publication we make so you can use this post as your main entry point:
