Hi All

I recently got the hotfix from Microsoft to fix this issue (see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328213/en-us). Unfortunately, the fix
wouldn't install and I got an eeror message that "You can only install this
update on a computer with no service packs installed".

Does anyone know of a more recent hotfix for this problem?
Regards

My instructions were not quite right.

Select Start, Run, type "cmd" without quotes and hit ENTER, type cd\
and hit ENTER. Type "sc query appmgmt" and hit ENTER.
Note result, type Exit and hit ENTER

The exit code on a Windows XP Home Edition computer is 126 meaning the
module or service, although listed as Service, is not available. It
should be available if you are using Windows XP Professional.

Exit code 1077= No attempts to start this service have been made since
the last boot.

At the command prompt if you type net helpmsg 1077 that is what you get.

I found an explanation saying it means that the service is set to
Manual.

Of course the Exit code may have been different had the command sc query
appmgmt been executed immediately after the Event ID error occurred and
before the computer was rebooted.

You started this thread by saying installing the Hotfix failed. Is your
operating system Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional or
something else?

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry

I believe the hotfix I received last month from MS had been updated to
resolve this issue - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328213/EN-US/ (see
third "Note").
Regards

Yes but years ago. I think this is one of those Events which is a
non-event. It's an error which gets recorded but one which has no affect
on the good running of your computer.

Hope this helps.

OK Gerry - so I ignore all these 7023 errors. FYI, the event ID sequence is:
7035 - The Application Management service was successfully sent a start
control
7036 - The Application Management service entered the stopped state
7023 - The Application Management service terminated with the following
error:
The specified module could not be found.
These Events occur all at the same time.

Regards
