Put your backup files on the 500MB external drive. The nasty thing about
partitions is that when the drive fails, so do all of the partitions.

I'll second using the external drive for backups.

Short story...I had 2 physical HD's in this PC and used each as one large
partition.

C was the system and I used D for backing stuff up to. There was a power
supply event that cooked both of the HD's.....so no original's, no backups.

I now backup my work to 2 network drives. Always.
 
Are you guys unplugging the external hard drive that you're using to
back up the computer?


Oh and good call changing from WEP to WPA. I actually changed it to
WPA2 but my laptop only give me the option for entering a WPA code...
so I went back onto Vista and changed it to WPA

Technically, you should. Plug in, backup, unplug, store the external drive
somewhere safe.
