Ugly Trick

I get an "Error saving web page" message when trying to save a web page. The
web page saved correctly for a long period of time, and then all of a sudden
that message started appearing. Has anybody out there experienced the same
problem with XP Home?

What would we do to reproduce how you are saving this web page?

When the page comes up, I click on "File" and scroll down to"Save As." At
that point, the "Error saving web page." pops up.

You could look at the Error and Warnings in the Application and System
logs in Event Viewer. Post a copy and it might clearer what the problem
is!

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

You might try a search for 'comdlg32.dll'. If you have one that is NOT in the
system32 area, or the servicepackFiles area, you might try renaming that one.
If any extras are not found, you can get another copy of that file by
removing and reinstalling the Service Pack 2 update, or run a Repair setup of
XP.

Well it depend on what type of Format this page is?, did the Code or
programming of the Code changed or used other Code/programming language like
Jscript, Javascript, VBs in the design of this page?.
Also does the page exist on the Hard drive, try to remove it or rename the
old page then try the download of the new page.
What happen when you try another page from another site, does it save okay?.
Try the save as web page or Save as off-line web page and see if that will
cure the issue, you could be experiencing a corrupt folder for the download
or the Temp folder or not enough disk space allocated to this download.
