When this problem occured it happend by it's self, I didn't change any
settings. It Just keeps saying "An error is preventing this slideshow from
playing."

You have to have video card or certain amount of onboard memory with DirectX
9 support for that screensaver to work.

A video card with 128 MBs of video memory which supports pixel shader 2.0 to
get the Photo Screensaver.
1 GB of dual channel memory with 512 dedicated to system. More would be
recommended if its shared memory.

DirectX the rendering technology that handles all the graphics technology in
the system for presenting the desktop and effects. Its an industry standard
used in games for Windows.

You could try removing any video files that are in the folder that you are using
for the Photos Screensaver.

If you have any shortcuts in the folder where your pictures are, the screen
saver will produce this error.

I had the same problem that started after installing Vista SP1. After
uninstalling SP1 the slide show worked just fine. After many hours with
HP and MicroSoft help desks, I got the solution that worked for me from
MS. Go to:
and install this update. I don't understand how the 'realtek' audio
dirver has anything to do with the screensaver slide show but after
installing SP1 and then installing this 'realtek' driver update, my
slide show screensaver in Vista Premium works just fine again.

Paul,

Thanks for the advice. I had to search through about 20 sub-directories,
but after removing all the softlinks, the problem resolved itself. XP was
much more forgiving. Oh well, maybe I can upgrade to XP later.
