I have a terminal server which is 2003. From yesterday, sometimes users can
remote desktop to this server but most time they fail. Network looks running
well. I can access shared folder on the terminal server. I don't see any
error in Event Viewer. Anyone can help me on this? Thanks a lot

The Client Could not establish a connetion to the remote Computer
The mostly like causes for this error are:
1) Remote Connections might not be enabled at the remote computer
2)The maximum number of connections was exceeded at the remote computer
3) A network error occurred while establishing the connection

Have you checked the number of allowed connections in the Network
Adapter tab of the rdp-tcp properties?

Netstat:
TCP server:3389 ip-122-152-181-170.asianetcom.net:32745
SYN_RECEIVED
TCP server:3389 irqfdsl-374.ontera.net:40772 ESTABLISHED
The ontera.net connection is mine and the asianetcom.net is from HongKong
and definately has no business in the listing. The user also received a lot
of spam over the weekend I guess this server is a bot server now? I am
looking into the issue further.

I'm thinking if it could be a problem of licensing. It looks like: a desktop
can remote desktop to the terminal server when it is the first time this
desktop remote to the terminal server. After that fail.

I solved my problem. After changing many security problems and blocking the
person trying to connect to server remotely I applied all available updates
including SP2, now I can connect without issues.? I still do not know what
the original issue was, however works after the updates.
I will have the users all change their passwords tomorrow just encase.

I find out that if I delete the subkey of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software
-Microsoft - MSLicensing -Store (from client side), I am able to remote
desktop to the termianl server. I try it on serveral desktops. It works. Hope
it is the solution. But don't know the reason.

This means your licensing server is not able to hand out a permenant
license. Make sure, on that key, that Users have full control. They
probably do not.
