EFS corrupts files

Hi,
I recently reformatted my computer and installed Windows Vista Business. I
decided to give the encrypting file system a try and selected the Documents
folder and the folder, where Outlook stores the .pst files, to be encrypted.
Then I transferred the data I had backuped to another computer over the
network before the format back to my HD (again over the network), directly
into the encrypted Documents folder.
When I launched Outlook to import my saved e-mails it said that the
Outlook.pst (not the backup, but the file it had created on the first launch
before I had applied the encryption) file was not a valid personal folder
file. So I restarted Windows and tried it again, this time Outlook launched
fine, but it now claimed that my Backup.pst file was invalid. That's where I
am now. I tried opening some other encrypted files and some of them worked,
others were corrupt without any noticeable pattern. If I remove the
encryption the files are still corrupt.
Has anyone experienced this before or, even better, does anyone have a
solution to this problem?
 
If you backup or copy an OL data file whilst OL is open, or anything else,
eg a Desktop search app, is accessing the data file it will corrupt it.
Likewise MS doesnt support the use of a pst over a network.

Thanks for your response! The .pst file was definitely not in use when I
backed it up, but it also wasn't the only file I couldn't decrypt.
In the meantime I was able to figure out what the problem was: The fact that
I was unable to decrypt some of my encrypted files was because I had Symantec
AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 installed (see
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-s...007020810462848). After I uninstalled it, all files decrypted again fine.

Yet another reason to stay away from Symantec's security products.

If you need to recover the pst file, you can use Inbox Repair tool
which is used to repair corrupted file of pst. To run Inbox repair
tool fallow the steps:

1. Click on start goes to the search then click on files or folders
option.
2. In search box type scanpst.exe.
3. Double click on the scanpst.exe file to open the inbox repair
tool.
4. Then enter the location of Pst file and its name or browse it for
the path.
5. Then start to repair.

This way you can repair your pst file. But if your file is badly
damaged you may not able to repair it. At that time you can use some
software. You can try a tool called Advanced Outlook Repair to repair
your PST file. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and
other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files.
