So, here's the deal. I changed the icon for file folders in the 'edit
file type' window (control panel > folder options > file types > file
folders > advanced) and suddenly when i double clicked on a file it
would open my search window instead of opening the file. I went back to
the 'edit file type' window to edit the action and the 'edit' and
'delete' buttons were greyed out. I figured maybe this was because it
was the only option so I created a new action. Now I can't delete that
one either. And then just for fun I tried to create ANOTHER one! And of
course am not able to delete or edit that one. I've read several posts
with this same sort of issue but I haven't actually seen an answer to
the greyed out buttons. Anyone know?

I'm running XP Pro SP2

Hi mattiusmaximus,

Type the following commands in the Start > Run dialog box [Winkey +R].

cmd /k REG ADD "HKCR\Drive\Shell" /ve /d none

Hi mattiusmaximus,

You're welcome.

I am unsure as to why these buttons are greyed out. On my machine, the
Folder file type has two buttons greyed out which are "Delete" and
"Change". When you go to the Advance page for Folder then there are
three more buttons greyed out which are "Change Icon", "Edit" and
"Remove". If I am off based then please let me know.
