Sadly 5 days before the due date of windows xp's death, my Windows XP Dell 6400 computer has 'died'.
I was recently tinkering with settings under the computers 'memory usage' (under computer properties>advanced>performance settings>advanced).
I temporarily changed to system cache instead of programs, when i rebooted to experience this, I found that a lot of programs would not run in this mode causing application errors, however now i cannot boot...
I see the dell loading screen then the computer black-screens and windows doesn't load, I have tried F8 and have selected XP Home Edition (yes it does show up) I have also tried Safe Mode, Safe Mode with cmd, Safe mode with Networking and 'Last known good configuration' they all result in the same blackscreen.
I have left the computer for 2 hours thinking it may recover, when I return there is no difference.
The only recent programs I have installed are:
-Musescore
-Spybot Search and Destroy
EDIT: SAFE MODE BRINGS UP THE LOADING FILES AND STOPS AT THE FIFTH ONE: WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
I would prefer an answer where I can at least temporarily access something to retrieve some files...
