Guys

Sorry if this is the wrong NG

I'd appreciate a bit of help please.

-Using XP SP2 fully hotfixed and SP'ed
-Until last Friday night my DVD Drive/Writer was working great

I installed Ulead movie maker v6 and created a dvd. Saturday morning my dvd
drive has issues and has an error 37 (Windows cannot initialize the device
driver for this hardware. ) in device manager

So I take it out and replace it with a new one. Same error

I then remove all software that has the capability of writing/creating DVD's

No joy

If I boot to safe mode I can use the DVD drive and windows will see it fine

As soon as I boot normally my dvd drive is experiencing errors

I have 2 dvd drives lists in Device manager, these are:

-IB1031P EZP044C SCSI CDROM DEVICE
-TSSTCorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D

I've tried disabling the IB1031P and I still get the same problem

I've attempted to remove the IB1031P from the registry in safe made and
windows will not allow me to do this

So. I reckon Ulead caused the problems and has installed the IB1031P
driver. I do not have any SCSI devices on the PC, so I think the reference
to SCSI is virtual for the purpose of Ulead to create DVD's

How do I find out which drivers are being loaded for DVD/CDROM connections
please

Or is there an easier way of resolving this

In anticipation

Install at least one of these programs:
Ulead *
Pinnacle
iTunes
many others...

And prepare for the real pain!
If the DVD recorder doesn't stop working, it will start wasting disks. The
device will start responding slowly, system will freeze from time to time.
Erasing +/-RW disks may not finish even after 1 hour and more (instead of 15
minutes at 4x).

Many programs with CD/DVD burning capabilities does not use the native
windows API for recording on optical media. Instead the will install
unsigned drivers and filters, services and so on (a lot of poorly programmed
stuff that runs in the kernel).

1. remove Ulead DVD burning service.
2. in Device Manager, DVD burner, properties, drivers - see what unsigned
drivers you have.
3. search the registry for these files find what service they run as here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services
^ you need the name of the folder
search the registry again and remove that name from everywhere.

4a. Restart and pray... Take a deep breath and check the drivers for the DVD
again.
4b. If no luck, try system restore and uninstall Ulead.

5. Come back and share your opinion about the unsigned drivers ;-)

Good luck!

JS, you can reinstall the drivers for the CD/DVD device and the upper and
lower filters that usually are unsigned drivers and cause a lot of pain will
be back there, causing the same problems...

They must be removed from the registry.
